Tobacco Education Resources
Their free digital courses offer modern approaches to guide teachers and educate youth about the dangers associated with e-cigarette use and with misusing prescription medications, including counterfeit drugs containing fentanyl. Through real-world scenarios delivered in truth’s authentic peer-to-peer youth voice, students are empowered to make healthy and informed choices and help others do the same.
The Tobacco Prevention Toolkit (TPT) is a research-informed and validated set of curriculums to help prevent students from starting or escalating use of any tobacco product. The goal is to: Understand basic information about tobacco products, including e-cigarettes/vape pens, and the harm they cause, gain awareness of strategies manufacturers of tobacco, including e-cigarettes/vape pens, employ to increase use among adolescents through deceptive and creative marketing strategies, and gain skills to refuse experimentation and use of tobacco.

This publication provides sample language and ideas for evidence based solutions and information as to why these alternative measures may be more effective than suspension and expulsion at addressing student tobacco use and nicotine addiction as part of a school’s Commercial Tobacco-Free Policy.
To promote an environment free of commercial tobacco in primary and secondary schools, the Public Health Law Center has prepared a comprehensive model policy that school districts and schools may adopt.
School district approaches to tobacco are typically codified through district-wide policies, student codes of conduct, administrative rules and state regulations or laws. This document contains comprehensive language to support districts in creating and sustaining 100% tobacco-free school environments.
Alternative to Suspension Programs
Intervention for Nicotine Dependence: Education, Prevention, Tobacco and Health (INDEPTH) is a new, convenient alternative to suspension or citation that helps schools and communities address the teen vaping problem in a more supportive way. Instead of solely focusing on punitive measures, INDEPTH is an interactive program that teaches students about nicotine dependence, establishing healthy alternatives and how to kick the unhealthy addiction that got them in trouble in the first place.
This program is geared for students who have been caught using e-cigarettes OR cannabis and/or for any students who are interested in trying to quit. This program is packed with a self-paced lesson, a group 2- or 4-hour teacher or counselor-led curriculum, quitting resources, and more!
